Safety Sticker

The mission of this site is to promote bicycle safety. Probably the basic principle of bicycle safety is to always wear a helmet. A local professional bike racer said most of the accidents happen before or after the serious riding .e.g. riding around the parking lot or nearby areas to check out braking, shifting, funny noises coming from your bike, etc. It is important to wear your helmet during those seemingly innocent moments on your bike. Most seasoned bicycle riders do wear helmets but those returning to the sport after many years of not riding tend to think they are unimportant. That is misguided reasoning. Both of my accidents in which I was knocked unconscious cracked my helmet. That crack more than likely would have been in my skull without the helmets. I took care of a brain damaged wife for 21 years before she passed away. Granted she was impaired from an auto accident but the results from a bicycle ride accident could be identical. Please take it from a person who walked in the shoes of a “provider” to a brain damaged person. It changes everything forever. You do not want to “go there” either as the victim or the provider. The prevention is a bicycle helmet and thoughtful consideration of bicycle safety. Preceding each ride it is a good idea to go over in your head “what am I going to do during this ride to prevent an accident” In fact place a small amount of vinyl tape in a conspicuous place on your bike, perhaps on your top tube, so that each time your eye catches sight of that tape and you ask yourself “why is that tape there” it will remind you to think about bike safety e.g. staying focused on riding the bike, anticipating motorist mistakes, remembering braking is greatly enhanced by using both brakes but must be done carefully (check out our animated example), etc. If the above vinyl tape reminder does not "work for you" perhaps the below sticker will: Simply print this page, cut around the yellow square and cover with clear shipping tape then place on your top tube - see below steps. To reduce ink waste click here for a page with just the sticker image. We have a page on this site devoted to bicycle safety tips. Please look for "Safety Tips" in the left column and click it or click the safety sticker below and take a moment to read the tips. We hope to include on that page the not so common safety tips that are tried and proven.
