Cyclists today have a cadre of very well informed and talented mentors. There is only one organization that certifies cyclists to be well enough informed and competent to teach others cycling and that organization is The League of American Bicyclists. The League has been in business 120 years and through literally the “School of Hard Knocks”, academic research and expert advice has accumulated a vast wealth of cycling knowledge. Their knowledge has been distilled down into a wonderful course called Road 1. They have several other courses for kids, commuters, women, etc. but Road 1 is their flagship course. Those that pass Road 1 and also pass the Instructors course are awarded an LCI designation which stands for League Certified Instructor. If you ride a bike you would do yourself and your body a great favor by taking the course. After completing the course you will most likely ride better, ride safer, enjoy riding even more and be a more confident cyclist. For a very small fee you may be preventing a serious crash if not actually saving your life. Not only do you get the benefit of a well informed and competent instructor but because the groups are relatively small you can ask for and receive personal attention during the Road 1 course on various aspects of cycling that have been troubling you. Listed below are some LCI’s that have chosen to pay a small fee, which helps support this site, to list their names and backgrounds on this site. Most of them teach cycling classes periodically and it will only take a short e-mail to them to find out when their next class is scheduled.
